Fuel-Efficiency Roadshow Planned for September

What organizers called “a first-of-its-kind cross-country roadshow” is planned for September to showcase advancements in fuel efficiency components, with the goal of having up to 10 Class 8 trucks achieve 9 MPG on the journey being called ‘Run on Less.’

Freight-hauling trucks will travel from multiple locations across the United States and meet at the North American Commercial Vehicle inaugural show in Atlanta on Sept. 24-28, said the North American Council for Freight Efficiency, which is leading the effort.

The roadshow will feature six to 10 Class 8 trucks, using commercially available technologies ranging from 6x2 axles and automated transmissions to aerodynamics and other technologies that assist with improved freight efficiency, NACFE said.

Driver progress, as well as the dollars and carbon emissions saved, will be tracked and reported in real time throughout on the ‘Run on Less’ online site, it said.

“Now more than ever, fleets need help sifting through the noise and making better purchasing decisions, and manufacturers need help understanding the benefits and consequences of how fleets use their technologies,” Scott Perry, chief technology and procurement officer for Ryder System Inc. and NACFE chairman, said in a statement. “Run on Less will overcome these challenges by highlighting the opportunities of technologies that are available and profitable today.”

Also, both PepsiCo and Shell Lubricants are listed as major sponsors. Fleet applications to participate in the event are being accepted through April, while sponsorship opportunities will remain open until June 1, NACFE said.
