Freightliner Considers Moving Some Jobs East

Truck maker Freightliner LLC is studying relocating some of the operations in its aftermarket division from Oregon to the East Coast, the Oregonian newspaper reported Friday.

Freightliner said in a statement that it was considering moving some corporate functions to “Eastern location” closer to its plants in North Carolina, but did not specify which functions it might move, the paper said.

The move could employ at least 200 workers, the Oregonian reported.

Freightliner LLC — which includes Freightliner Trucks, Western Star and Sterling Trucks — is a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler and employs about 2,700 white-collar workers at its Portland, Ore., headquarters, the paper said.
