Former DOT Secretary Mineta to Receive Medal of Freedom

ormer Department of Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta will be among a handful of recipients of the 2006 Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest U.S civilian award, the White House said.

Mineta is scheduled to receive the award in a ceremony on Friday.

The former secretary, the only Democrat in the Bush administration’s cabinet, became longest-serving person in the DOT top spot.



He also served as a mayor, a congressman and as President Clinton’s commerce secretary during his career in public service.
