Transport Topics Publishing Group announced that John Hill, head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, will participate in an Internet chat session on Oct. 4 on the TTNews.com Web site.

The chat, from 3-4:30 p.m. EDT, is open to viewers on a first-come, first served basis. Readers can submit questions in advance by clicking here.

Hill was sworn in as FMCSA’s third administrator on Aug. 10, replacing Annette Sandberg. Shortly after being confirmed, Hill said FMCSA would soon publish several regulations, including rules governing the use of electronic onboard recorders. No rules have yet been released.

The agency is also in the middle of an ongoing court challenge to its revised hours-of-service rules for commercial drivers.

Hill was previously assistant administrator and chief safety officer for FMCSA, and earlier headed the commercial vehicle enforcement division of the Indiana State Police.

Those wishing to participate on Oct. 4 should log on early to the chat session, because there is a limited number of Web access slots. Viewers would be able to connect with the session through a box on the TTNews.com home page.

A transcript of the entire chat will be available on TTNews.com soon afterward.

The event's sponsor is Xata, a provider of on-board fleet management systems.
