Denny Hamlin, driving the No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota, charged from fourth place on the final lap to edge out Martin Truex Jr. in the closest finish in the history of the Daytona 500.

It was Hamlin’s first victory in the historic race that dates to 1959. Hamlin began driving the FedEx car during the 2005 season.

It also was owner Joe Gibbs’ first Daytona victory since 1993. Hamlin also won the exhibition Sprint Unlimited race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 13.

During Daytona 500 media day, Mack Trucks announced it had been named the official hauler of NASCAR.
