FedEx Freight to Open Container Freight Station in Chicago

FedEx Freight said it will open a container freight station at its Chicago Summit, Ill., facility to consolidate and sort freight bound for Puerto Rico.

“The container freight station in Chicago Summit is a key location in our network to better serve the needs of our customers,” Grant Crawford, FedEx Freight vice president-international, said in a statement. “This more centralized location will help improve transits and rates for many Puerto Rico shipments.”

The company said the service will benefit any customer shipping to Puerto Rico from North America, and customers will continue to receive a single invoice for their less-than-truckload and full-container-load.

The facility is expected to be open March 31. Previously, freight bound for Puerto Rico was processed at the company’s Newark, N.J., facility.

FedEx Freight is a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., which ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
