he European Commission, the European Union’s antitrust regulator, on Thursday agreed to delay its ruling on German truck maker MAN’s hostile takeover bid for rival Scania until Dec. 20.

The commission had originally planned to issue its ruling on Dec. 6, but agreed to ex-tend its review in light of pledges from MAN and Scania to address regulatory objections, Jonathan Todd, a European Commission spokesman, told Bloomberg.

On Monday, Scania intensified its resistance to the MAN takeover offer, announcing plans to boost investor returns next year to about $7.26 a share in an effort to persuade its shareholders not to sell. (Click here for previous coverage.)
