EGL's Third-Quarter Earnings, Revenue Improve

ransportation and logistics firm EGL Inc. reported Thursday that its third-quarter net income was $19.2 million or 40 cents a share, up from $16.6 million or 34 cents for the same quarter last year.

Revenue rose 8% to $779.5 million, the company said in a statement.

Air freight revenue rose 10%, ocean revenue decreased 2% and customs and brokerage logistics revenue gained 10% over the previous third quarter, EGL said.



The earnings were in the range of 31 cents to 35 cents the company had projected in August. EGL said it expected its fourth-quarter earnings will be 38 cents to 42 cents a share, compared with 26 cents last year.

GL, which operates under the name EGL Eagle Global Logistics, is ranked No. 16 on the Transport Topics Logistics 50 listing of the largest U.S. and Canadian logistics companies.
