Three marketers of truck wheel accessories that reduce fuel consumption and vehicle wear and tear have joined to offer their products in a package called the MPG Smart Pack.

Fleets will be able to make a combined purchase of Eco Flaps’ splash guards, RealWheels Corp.’s wheel covers and IMI Products' internal wheel-end balancer Equal Flexx from major truck manufacturers and their dealer networks.

A Southwest Research Institute road test last fall found that fuel consumption on Class 8 equipment going 62 miles per hour improved by 5% when all three products were installed on the test tractor and trailer. The partners say that a truck with an MPG Smart Pack traveling 2,000 or more miles per week will see combined fuel savings of seven to eight gallons of diesel per week.

The companies said the three-product combination also can cut vibration, spray and corrosion.

More than 200,000 tractors and trailers in North America use Eco Flaps, according to the Brentwood, Tenn.-based firm. The Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program in 2016 recognized Eco Flaps’ products for their fuel-saving benefits.
