he U.S. Department of Transportation said it is planning four public hearings in Indiana in November to hear arguments for or against proposals from the state’s 18 counties seeking approval to make the change from the Eastern to Central time zone.

In a notice in the Federal Register, the Department recommended that Knox, Perry, Pike, St. Joseph and Starke counties move from Eastern to Central time.

ransportation and logistics businesses have argued that Indiana's confusion around the clocks has cost them time and money, and the state economic growth, the Indianapolis Star said in an editorial published Thursday.

The proposed rule said the five counties recommended “have provided enough information to justify proposing to change” time zones, but noted that those counties still seeking a change have time to provide additional information or make “stronger arguments” to support their case.

DOT said details of the Indiana hearings will be announced once times and locations have been confirmed.
