Diesel fuel’s national average pump price rose 3.1 cents from last week to $3.376 a gallon, while gasoline jumped 5.6 cents to $3.109, the Department of Energy said Monday.

The increases followed last week’s record crude oil prices in which oil topped $100 a barrel for the first time ever, though oil prices receded late last week and into Monday.

Gasoline has now gained 12.9 cents at the pump and diesel has risen 6.8 cents in the past two weeks.

The diesel upturns ranged from a 0.7-cent rise in the Rocky Mountain region to $3.276 to a 3.7-cent jump on the East Coast to $3.438.

Within the regions, the New England sub-region within the East Coast had the highest listed price overall, jumping 4.4 cents to $3.644.

California, which DOE breaks out separately but is included in the West Coast region calculations, rose 3.5 cents to $3.526 a gallon.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
