The national average price of diesel held at $4.692 a gallon from a week ago, while gasoline continued its string of increases in rising 4.3 cents to a record $4.082, the Department of Energy reported.

The diesel level was $1.887 over than the same week last year, while gas was $1.073 higher than the same week a year ago, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
