The national average price of retail diesel fuel declined 5 cents to $3.326 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.

Gasoline’s average price also fell, dropping 4.1 cents to $3.068 a gallon, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.

The diesel decline — which was the first in three weeks and the biggest since a 9.1-cent drop five weeks ago — left trucking’s main fuel 86.3 cents higher than the same time last year.

Gasoline’s drop was also the first in three weeks and left the motor fuel’s price 83.9 cents higher than a year ago, DOE figures showed.

Crude oil prices declined by more than $3 a barrel last week before rising for the first time in four sessions on the New York Mercantile Exchange Monday, Bloomberg reported.

The price fell from a $96.33 a barrel last Tuesday to close the week at $92.69 Friday, a $3.64 decline.

Oil futures price rose $1.51 Monday to close on the Nymex at $94.20 a barrel, Bloomberg said.
