Diesel fuel’s national average price fell 2.8 cents to $2.268 a gallon, the Energy Department said Monday.

The decline left trucking’s main fuel 99.1 cents below the same week last year, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.

Gasoline, meanwhile, fell 0.9 cent to $1.838 after rising 23.4 cents in three weeks of increases the past three weeks.

Gas is now $1.139 below the same week a year ago.

Oil rose $3.90, or 9.2%, in the past week, to $46.47 a barrel, Bloomberg reported. Oil accounts for 56% of prices at the pump, according to DOE.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
