he national average price of diesel fuel fell 1.5 cents to $2.606 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.
Gasoline, meanwwhile, rose 2.7 cents from last week to $2.32 a gallon.
The diesel decline was the first following five weeks of increases, led in the past two weeks by big jumps in the California and West Coast prices.
Prices in those regions receded Monday, falling 4.4 on the West Coast to $2.887 a gallon and 4.6 cents to $2.917 in California, the biggest regional drops for the week.
Each week, DOE surveys 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
