The U.S. diesel average price fell 1 cent to $2.389 per gallon, according to a Department of Energy survey of fueling stations released Sept. 19.

Diesel was 10.4 cents cheaper than it was a year ago when the price was $2.493, DOE said after its survey.

Average diesel prices fell in all regions.

The U.S. average price of regular gasoline rose 2.3 cents per gallon to $2.225, 10.2 cents cheaper than a year ago, DOE’s Energy Information Administration said.

Gasoline rose in all regions, except the Gulf Coast and Rocky Mountain areas.

The United States simultaneously imports and exports gasoline because of regional differences in gasoline supply and demand balances, EIA said.

The two regions with the largest supply and demand imbalances are the East Coast, which imported 581,000 barrels per day of gasoline in 2015, and the Gulf Coast, which exported 551,000 bpd of gasoline in 2015, it said.

Meanwhile, crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed at $43.30 per barrel Sept. 19 after setting a new 30-day low on Sept. 16 at $43.03.
