iesel fuel’s average national price fell 11.8 cents to $2.595 a gallon, its lowest level since March 27, the Department of Energy reported Monday.

Meanwhile, the national average price of gasoline fell 11.9 cents to $2.378, 42.5 cents lower than a year earlier, DOE said.

The decline, diesel’s sixth straight, follows a 14.4-cent decrease last week. Prices are 20.3 cents lower than a year ago.

Diesel’s average fell in all five national regions. In California, which DOE breaks out separately, the nation’s main trucking fuel fell 9.2 cents to $2.910.

Crude oil futures gained 90 cents to close at $61.45 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, rising amid worry that falling crude prices could prompt the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to cut production, Bloomberg reported.

Each week, DOE surveys 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
