HL Express will spend $110 million to expand its express cargo unit in Hong Kong, Bloomberg reported.

The facility will begin operations at the end of 2007, Bloomberg said.

DHL, owned by Germany-based Deutsche Post, said the new terminal will increase its parcel-sorting capacity to 35,000 pieces per hour from 20,000 and document-handling to 40,000 from 15,000.

DHL, along with UPS Inc., FedEx Corp. and other package-delivery companies, are expanding in Asia as the region exports more goods to the United States.

FedEx is also building a $150 million facility in Guangzhou City in southern China.

DHL Americas is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. UPS is No. 1 and FedEx is No. 2.
