DAT July Freight Index Rises 13% Year-Over-Year

TransCore’s DAT North American Freight Index for July increased 13% from the same month last year and increased from June for the first time since the index was established in 1996, the company said Wednesday.

Month-to-month, July freight rose 0.5% from June, “attributed to a combination of pent-up demand for flatbeds due to weather-related delays in housing starts as well as a robust harvest,” TransCore said.

Freight volume typically declines from June to July; the average decline was 20% over the past 10 years.
