Daimler’s Former Truck Chief Renschler Leaves Company
A top Daimler AG official who led the company’s global truck business has left the company “of his own accord and by mutual consent,” Daimler said.
Andreas Renschler had led production and purchasing for Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz cars and vans business since April. He had been moved from the truck unit, which is the world’s largest, and replaced by Wolfgang Bernhard.
“During his time as a member of the board of management of Daimler AG, Andreas Renschler gave our commercial vehicles business a global reach,” Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the German company’s board of management, said in a Jan. 28 statement. “I very much regret that he is leaving the company for personal reasons.”
Markus Schäfer, who had led production planning at Mercedes-Benz, is replacing Renschler, Daimler said.
Renschler had worked for Daimler for 25 years.
Daimler produces the Freightliner and Western Star truck brands and Detroit engines and components in North America. Together, the truck brands led U.S. sales in 2013 with 38.2% of the market, up from 2012’s 34.2%, according to WardsAuto.com.
