DaimlerChrysler Announces Plans to Build New Sterling Mid-Size Truck

DaimlerChrysler AG said its Sterling Trucks unit would introduce a new mid-size truck for the North American market, Bloomberg News reported Thursday.

The truck will be based on a platform used by the company’s Japanese commercial vehicle division, Mitsubishi Fuso.

The new vehicle would be available by the middle of 2006, Bloomberg reported.

Daimler said the move was aimed at opening a new market for Sterling and reducing costs by sharing parts and components between its various commercial vehicle units, Bloomberg reported.

The new truck will be a cab-over vehicle and will be marketed to retailers and wholesalers, the company told Bloomberg.
