NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Martin Daum, president of Daimler Trucks North America, said the company’s previously announced layoffs at its production facilities will be “significantly lower” than the 1,300 jobs it had projected earlier this year.
Daimler will release the final figure at next week’s Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., Daum said here Monday at Heavy Duty Dialogue.
DTNA in late January cited softening economic conditions as the reason for the potential factory layoffs, which the company said would bring production rates in line with new order intake if implemented.
The potential cuts included a total of 1,120 at two Freightliner plants in North Carolina, plus another 80 at the components and logistics facility in the state, according to notices listed on North Carolina’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act website.
