Daimler Trucks North America announced it is recalling 436,095 heavy-duty trucks over a potential brake-light-related issue that could fail to alert trailing motorists to a braking event.

The affected vehicles include 2008-2018 Freightliner Cascadias and Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700 and 6900 models.

After hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch on the trucks may not activate the brake lights with a light application of the brake pedal, according to the company.

If the brake lights fail to illuminate, there would not be a signal to other motorists that the vehicle is slowing, increasing the risk of a crash.

DTNA will notify truck owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Jan. 25.

Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-756.
