Corridor Study Slated for Summer Senate Vote

Ports-to-Plains Route Would Connect Mexican Border With Denver-Area Consumers
A federal Ports to Plains Corridor feasibility study — to determine whether to develop a four-lane highway corridor from existing roadways to run between Laredo, Texas, and Denver for increased truck and passenger vehicles to and from the U.S.-Mexico border — is on track for full Senate approval this summer, said a Senate aide.

“It’s ready now for a vote before the full Senate, but we expect it to be considered with an appropriations bill or as part of a unanimous consent decree,” said Jude McCartin, communications director with Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), in a telephone interview with Transport Topics.

“While it is a very important piece of legislation, we don’t believe that it will merit a debate on its own,” she said. “The senator is very hopeful that it will be considered.”
