onsumer confidence rose by the largest amount in seven months in early March, the Associated Press reported Friday.

The measure in the AP-Ipsos consumer confidence index rose to 84.2 in early March, up 6.4% a February reading of 79.1. It was the largest monthly gain since 13.9% in August.

Americans’ economic confidence was boosted by a surge in hiring, AP said, and the rebound came from stronger confidence about current economic conditions, job prospects and personal finances.

The survey was taken the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, following the news last Friday that the economy created 262,000 jobs in February, the best showing in four months, AP said.
