Con-way Truckload said it is raising per-mile pay for drivers as well as increasing layover pay and adding a new incentive program.

The new driver pay package increases the new-hire per-mile pay to 42.5 cents and will go into effect Sept. 7, according to the company.

Layover pay is increasing to $75 per day from $60, and with a new incentive bonus program, drivers can earn an additional 1.5 cents to 3 cents per mile.

“Our drivers are the company’s most important asset. After listening to their feedback and evaluating current market trends, this is the right time to increase our mileage rate and add new compensation programs which reward driver loyalty and safe-driving performance,” Con-way Truckload President Joseph Dagnese said in a statement.

The mileage also applies to independent contractors.

“Our independent contractors are a key part of our strategy for providing consistent, high-quality capacity and service,” Dagnese said.

Con-way truckload is a subsidiary of Con-way Inc., which ranks No. 4 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
