Committee Unanimously Approves Peters as DOT Secretary

he Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on Tuesday voted 22-0 to recommend Mary Peters as the next secretary of the Department of Transportation.

Peters, who served as administrator of the Federal Highway Administration from 2001-2005, will now be considered by the full Senate, the committee said in a statement.

In early September, President Bush nominated Peters to succeed Norman Mineta as Transportation Secretary. (Click here for previous coverage.)
