Clarke Reports Fourth-Quarter, Annual Profit

anadian holding company Clarke Inc. reported fourth-quarter earnings of about $430,000 or 7 cents a share, compared with a loss of $2.8 million or 40 cents a year earlier.

The results included a comparison with the 2003 fourth quarter in which Clarke sold Concord Transportation inc. in exchange for a 30% interest in ATS Andlauer Transportation, the company said.

Net income from continuing operations was $980,000 or 14 cents for the quarter, Clarke said in a statement.



For the full year Clarke earned $20 million or $2.89 a share, up from about $430,000 or 7 cents for the previous year.

Clarke, which operates in the truckload and less-than-truckload sectors via its Clarke Transport unit, is ranked No. 66 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
