Caterpillar Sending Engines to EPA in April

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Caterpillar Inc. plans to submit a full line of modified heavy-duty truck engines for Environmental Protection Agency certification in April and sale in October, although they just partially comply with an EPA mandate.

“We fully intend to offer product,” said Robert Wessels, engineering manager for Caterpillar, during a March 6 presentation here at the annual meeting of the Technology and Maintenance Council.

Caterpillar in 2001 was the largest supplier of diesel engines to the U.S. trucking market.
