Caterpillar Announces Job Cuts, Production Shift Ahead of EPA ‘07

ngine manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. on Friday said it would reduce its workforce and shift some of its production capacity from truck to marine engines ahead of the rollout of the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2007 emission standards, Bloomberg reported.

Without specifying how many jobs it would cut, Caterpillar said it plans to eliminate positions at truck engine facilities in Mossville, Ill., and Greenville, S.C., Bloomberg reported.

Caterpillar said the Mossville plant will reduce engine production to 100 units a day from 600, while the Greenville facility will switch its focus to marine engines, Bloomberg said.



Caterpillar sees tough times ahead for its truck engine business as industry demand tapers ahead of the rollout of the new cleaner, less fuel-efficient 2007 engines, Bloomberg reported.
