Canadian National Reports Higher 1Q Income; Notes Rate Hike

anadian National Railway reported its first-quarter earnings rose 42% to $241.7 million or 84 cents a share, compared with $167 million or 59 cents a year earlier.

CN also said in a statement that it had raised freight rates an average of 9.2%.

Canada’s largest freight rail line said that its revenue rose 19% to $1.38 billion and that its performance was helped by increases in intermodal and other rail traffic, and that last year’s first-quarter performance had been hurt by a strike against the railroad.
