U.S. business inventories were unchanged in December, and business sales rose 1.4%, the biggest gain since May, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. The December reading followed November’s 0.2% gain, which was less than originally reported, Commerce said. The unchanged reading matched economists’ forecasts, Bloomberg reported. Retail inventories, which account for a little over a third of all business stockpiles, rose 0.3% after falling 0.4%. When inventories and sales are growing, it usually means trucking is seeing additional demand to deliver goods and restock shelves.
