Bush to Oppose Global Warming Pact at Economic Summit

President Bush reiterated his opposition to mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions on the eve of the G-8 summit in Gleneagles, Scottland, Bloomberg News reported.

Bush’s opposition to the emissions limits set the U.S. at odds with the rest of the G-8, a group of world’s leading industrial and economic powers, which support the limits as part of the Kyoto Protocol. Global climate change is expected to be a main topic of the summit, along with Africa, Bloomberg said.

Rather than endorse emissions limits, Bush said he favored incentives for emissions reduction and use of new technology and alternative fuels, Bloomberg reported.

The G-8 meeting was scheduled for July 6-8.
