ail carriers Burlington Northern Sante Fe and CSX Corp. are planning to create a new rail corridor that will connect California and the Southeastern states, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
Service on the corridor, which would largely focus on intermodal freight, could begin as early as 2007, Bloomberg reported.
As part of the project, Burlington Northern will increase rail capacity on Avard, Okla.,
emphis, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala., lines, while CSX will add to a line connecting Birmingham and Atlanta and expand an intermodal terminal near Atlanta, Bloomberg said.
The cost of the project was not disclosed, Bloomberg reported.
