BTS Extends Filing Deadline

The federal government will give motor freight carriers more time to file 1998 annual reports. It also is soliciting comments on a proposal to restrict public access to some sensitive carrier financial and operating data.

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics, in a final rule effective April 22, kept in place a law that requires fleets with annual revenue of at least $3 million to file annual reports with the federal government. Fleets with annual revenue of $10 million or more must also file quarterly reports.

Both the annual report, Form M, and the quarterly report, Form QTR, were revised to reduce carriers’ reporting burden. New forms should be available from BTS in early April.
