Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems said it has begun to produce driver control modules, or DCMs, built for Navistar Inc. on an advanced new assembly line at its Acuña, Mexico, manufacturing campus, in which it recently invested $4.6 million.

The modules will be used in Class 8, medium-duty and military vehicles. It expects to produce up to 60,000 DCMs annually, Elyria, Ohio-based Bendix said, and the operation is designed for custom ordering and just-in-time delivery — in alignment with Navistar’s manufacturing process.

The DCM is an assembly of vehicle control systems including the steering column, brake, clutch, accelerator, valves, and air tube and electrical harnesses, it said.

The campus — one of its fastest-growing manufacturing sites — consists of three state-of-the-art facilities that employ more than 1,400 workers and encompass 412,000 square feet, Bendix said.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems is a member of the Knorr-Bremse Group, which is based in Munich, Germany.

Navistar is the parent company of the International Truck brand.
