Kenworth Adds Allison FuelSense Package for Class 8 Trucks
Kenworth Truck Co.
Kenworth Truck Co. said it is including Allison Transmission’s FuelSense package for new Class 8 and medium-duty trucks equipped with the highway or rugged-duty series automatic transmissions from Allison.
The FuelSense option uses software and electronic controls that target critical components of a truck’s duty cycle to help improve fuel savings, according to Kenworth.
The system adapts shift schedule and torque to maximize transmission efficiency based on load, grade and duty cycle.
“The addition of Allison’s FuelSense to Kenworth’s product offering gives our new truck customers another opportunity to increase fuel efficiency and save money,” Kurt Swihart, Kenworth marketing director, said in a statement.
The fuel-saving system has several options, including Neutral at Stop, which eliminates load on the engine when the vehicle is stopped to reduce nonproductive fuel consumption.
Another option is the Acceleration Rate Management feature that automatically controls the engine torque. It is available in base, high and ultra-economy options, according to the truck manufacturer.
