Wisconsin Department of Transportation chief Mark Gottlieb will ride with a truck driver to observe how the state’s regulations affect drivers.

Gottlieb will ride with over-the-road driver Lisa Buhrow about 50 miles, from Saukville to Beaver Dam.

“I want to see how Wisconsin’s regulations, road repairs, even rest areas have affected drivers,” Gottlieb said in a statement.

The event, coordinated by the Women in Trucking Association, also will highlight WisDOT’s transportation job resources.

“Jobs in the transportation industry today are plentiful, and it’s important for me to see that the tools, training and technology that we have in place through WisDOT are truly supporting this growing industry,” Gottlieb said.

Truck driving jobs in Wisconsin are projected to grow at a rate of about 1,700 openings each year between 2012 and 2022, with the median wage of $49,160 in 2012, according to WisDOT.
