Container Traffic at SoCal Ports Rises in July

Patrick T. Fallon/Bloomberg News

Container traffic at the Southern California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach rose in July from a year ago.

The Port of Los Angeles said import container volume rose 0.25% from a year ago and volume at the port of Long Beach increased 3.7% to its busiest July since 2010.

Los Angeles’ total volume of 20-foot equivalent units increased to 717,407 from the same time last year. Long Beach’s to 583,060 TEUs.

Container imports at Los Angeles declined 2% in April to 363,393 TEUs. Exports increased 3.6% to 163,294 units.

At the Port of Long Beach, imports were flat at 297,605, and exports declined 6.2%, to 124,126 units

The flat July import numbers at Long Beach follow a surge in June when retailers were stocking up for back-to-school shopping, according to the port.
