Roadrunner to Acquire Logistics Firm Active Aero

Roadrunner Transportation Systems

Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. said it agreed to acquire the logistics company Active Aero Group from Aero's parent company, Platinum Equity for $115 million.

Active Aero generated revenues of about $265 million in the twelve months ended June 30, according to Roadrunner.

Aero provides logistics services predominantly in the United States and Mexico to customers with time-critical or sensitive freight.

“We expect to be able to complement each other through utilization of our combined network and the expanded services we collectively bring to our customers,” Patrick McKay, Roadrunner’s president of truckload logistics said in a statement.

Platinum acquired Aero in 2011 from a group of investors that kept a minority ownership position, according to the private equity firm.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter, and is subject to customary closing conditions.

Roadrunner ranks No. 21 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
