Werner Enterprises Inc. has agreed to make an equity investment in Chinese transportation firm Hercules Logistics Co. to enhance capabilities in the international market, the Omaha, Nebraska-based carrier said.

The amount of investment wasn’t announced. Werner characterized Hercules, based in Shenzhen, as a “rapidly growing and successful logistics and asset-based transportation company.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to invest in and partner with one of the best transportation and logistics firms in China,” Werner President Derek Leathers said in a statement. “Throughout the last six years, we have expanded our business relationship and worked closely with Ken Mei, chairman and CEO of Hercules, and his management team.”

Mei said, “We are very happy to formalize our long-standing relationship and operations with Werner Global Logistics. The customers of Hercules and Werner now have a combined asset-based international capability that is unique in the marketplace.”

The companies are focused on providing door-to-door services, the statement said.

Hercules was founded in 2001. Werner first entered the Chinese market in 2006. The combination of Hercules and Werner’s Global Logistics unit will have 20 locations in China and manage a fleet of more than 1,000 trucks.
