CARB Approves $85 Million for Clean Truck Technology Projects

California Air Resources Board

The California Air Resources Board said it has approved $85 million for advanced-technology, heavy-duty truck projects to help improve the state’s air quality.

CARB said it plans on spending $10 million to $15 million to purchase heavy-duty hybrid and electric vehicles, such as delivery trucks, and about $25 million for large-scale pilot projects to demonstrate zero-emission technology in the freight sector.

CARB said it will spend $50 million for zero-emission drayage trucks serving ports and advanced-technology freight demonstration projects.

The funding is part of CARB’s $222 million budget for 2014-2015, including $200 million from the state’s share of auction proceeds from its cap-and-trade program for low-carbon transportation projects.

The Truck Loan Assistance Program will receive $10 million for continued funding to provide credit assurance so small fleets can access loans for trucks with clean-diesel technologies.
