Rogers to Succeed Wolfe as Universal CEO

Universal Truckload Services Inc. said CEO Scott Wolfe will retire at the end of 2014 and be succeeded by former YRC Freight President Jeff Rogers.

Universal, which ranks No. 26 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, said in its announcement that Rogers will be executive vice president until Wolfe steps down.

Wolfe was named to the post at Warren, Michigan-based Universal in December 2012. He joined the company after the acquisition of Linc Logistics, where he was CEO for 10 years. Rogers left YRC in September after serving as president of YRC Freight for two years.

Wolfe took over for Don Cochran at Universal, which offers truckload, brokerage and intermodal services. Cochran  became vice chairman.

“Today’s announcement is evidence of the high priority both Universal’s board and Scott Wolfe have placed on working together to assure Universal will remain in capable hands after Scott retires,” said Matthew Moroun, chairman of Universal’s board of directors. Wolfe also was named to the board.

Rogers worked at 16 years for YRC, serving as president of a regional unit before being chosen president at YRC Freight, the larger unit of YRC Worldwide, which  No. 5 on the TT100.
