Nafta Trade Value Rises 6.2% in March
U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico in March increased by 6.2% to $101.5 billion from 2013, to the second highest amount on record, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported May 29.
Trucks carried 60.1% of the $101.5 billion trade between North American Free Trade Agreement partners. Trucks transported $31.2 billion of exports and $29.8 billion of imports. Trade by truck increased 6.3% year-over-year, and rail declined 5.2%.
U.S.-Canada trade for the month by truck increased 2.7%, and rail declined 10.5%. Trucks carried 54.3% of the $56.6 billion in freight to and from Canada.
Trade with Mexico by truck increased 10.2% from last year and accounted for 67.4% of the $44.9 billion of freight moved to and from the country.
October’s $103.5 billion Nafta trade total was the highest on record.
