UPS Inc. said it has opened a new package sorting and delivery facility in Laredo, Texas, on the border with Mexico, to double the site’s previous capacity.
The facility will use advanced technology to boost its throughput, which will give its customers in South Texas shipping to Mexico a one-day improvement in transit times, UPS said.
The 33,000-square-foot complex can accommodate up to 66 delivery trucks and trailers. Along with the technology improvements, the upgrades will result in an improved working environment and simultaneously reduce fuel consumption, miles driven and carbon emissions, UPS said.
The facility is strategically located to improve shipping to Mexico, an important market for UPS and its customers.
