Navistar Gets SCR Engine Certification From EPA, Names Allen COO

Navistar International Corp. said it received regulatory approval for its heavy-duty engines using selective catalytic reduction technology and that its board has named Jack Allen its new chief operating officer.

The Lisle, Ill., truck and engine maker received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certification for its proprietary MaxxForce 13-liter heavy-duty engines using SCR technology from Cummins Inc. for aftertreatment.

The company said the engine meets 2010 emissions standards of 0.2 gram per brake horsepower-hour.

Navistar introduced its first SCR-based commercial trucks for the U.S. and Canadian markets in December with the launch of its International ProStar with the Cummins ISX 15-liter engine.

With the introduction of the ProStar equipped with the company’s 13-liter engine, International now offers a complete lineup of SCR-based product offerings for the Class 8 truck market, Navistar said.

Allen, 55, has been president of Navistar’s North America truck and parts business since June 2012. He replaces Troy Clarke, who became the company’s CEO, effective Monday.

“Jack is a results-focused leader with a deep understanding of the commercial truck industry and Navistar. He has successfully run nearly every important part of our business at one point during his 31-year career at the company,” Clarke said in a statement released late Tuesday.
