Daimler Appoints Bernhard to Succeed Renschler as Head of Trucks Unit

Company Extends CEO Zetsche’s Contract for Three Years

Daimler AG said Thursday that Wolfgang Bernhard will become the new head of Daimler Trucks effective April 1, succeeding Andreas Renschler, who will move to the company’s Mercedez-Benz auto unit.

Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler also extended CEO Dieter Zetsche’s contract for three years. His contract would have expired in December 2013.

Renschler has been head of Daimler Trucks since October 2004, and Bernhard has been head of operations at Mercedes-Benz since February 2010.

Renschler will be responsible for production and purchasing for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and vans, the company said in a statement.

Daimler Trucks North America President Martin Daum will report to Bernhard. DTNA makes Freightliner and Western Star brand trucks in North America as well as Detroit brand engines, transmissions and axles.

“Wolfgang Bernhard and Andreas Renschler are two highly experienced members of Daimler’s [board]. With this change, they will both be able to utilize their management know-how from their previous responsibilities within in their new functions, thus expanding their own expertise in all automobile areas,” the company said.
