Tom Biery/Trans PixsThe U.S. Department of Transportation said Thursday it is seeking nominations for a committee to advise leaders about freight policies aimed at improving the national freight transportation system.
“By engaging stakeholders representing diverse geographic, modal, and policy interests, such as safety, labor and the environment, the advisory committee will provide recommendations to the secretary of transportation on how DOT can improve its freight transportation policies and programs,” the department said in a statement.
The National Freight Advisory Committee will work with the Freight Policy Council, a group of DOT leaders who are working to develop the National Freight Strategic Plan mandated in MAP-21. The advisory committee is part of the council’s plan to use stakeholder input in its decision process.
