Oil Finishes Week Above $97 a Barrel

Larry Smith/Trans Pixs

Oil prices finished above $97 a barrel on Friday, and finished the week higher for the eighth straight week, the longest string in more than eight years, Bloomberg News reported.

Crude futures rose 28 cents Friday to finish at $97.77 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Oil has risen in eight straight weeks — the longest string of weekly gains in more than eight years, Bloomberg said.

Nymex closing prices have topped $97 in each of the past four days, according to Bloomberg figures. Wednesday’s $97.94 was the highest since oil finished at $99 a barrel on Sept. 14.

Diesel rose 2.5 cents this week to $3.927 a gallon in its second straight weekly increase, while gasoline rose for a sixth straight week, to $3.357.

The Department of Energy will release its weekly survey of filling-station prices Monday afternoon in Washington.
