Postmaster Urges Congress to Make Postal Service Reform a Priority

U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe has urged Congress to make postal reform a priority, as the U.S. Postal Service is currently losing $25 million a day and has defaulted on $11.1 billion in Treasury payments.

Donahoe called the lack of action “disappointing” and said the USPS is on an unsustainable financial path, which has “undermined the confidence of our customer base and the $800 billion mailing industry.”

In the past two years, the Postal Service has cut 60,000 employees and consolidated 70 mail-processing facilities, Donahoe said.
